Career Story
Born in Reykjavík, Iceland, on August 8, 2001, Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir is a technically gifted midfielder, known for her vision and creativity in attacking areas.
Karólína Lea began her high-level football career at a very young age: at just 13 years old, she was already playing for FH Hafnarfjarðar, a team competing in Iceland’s top division. With FH, Vilhjálmsdóttir made her debut in her country’s league, appearing at the age of 15 on the opening matchday of the Besta deild kvenna. In 2018, she moved to Breiðablik, where she spent three seasons, winning two league titles, one national cup, one Icelandic Super Cup, and one League Cup.
In 2021, she left her home country for the first time, joining Bayern Munich, where she split her time between the first and second teams until 2023. After two years, she was sent on loan to Bayer Leverkusen, where she earned more playing time and became an important player for the German side. In the summer of 2025, Vilhjálmsdóttir joined Inter Milan, beginning her new adventure with the Nerazzurri.
An attacking and creative midfielder, Vilhjálmsdóttir represented all of Iceland’s youth national teams before making her senior debut in 2019, when she was still under 18 years old. Overall, Karólína has made 51 appearances and scored 14 goals for Iceland, also earning a call-up for UEFA Women's Euro 2025.
