The captain scored a brace on his first appearance of the season: "We worked well in pre-season and it shows, we also won for our fans."

MILAN - After recent struggles with injury, Mauro Icardi was back with a bang and a brace on Sunday, as it took him just five minutes to get on the scoresheet at the San Siro: “I’m feeling good. We’ve worked well during pre-season and it shows. We have a strong squad and we must fight to keep winning. We fell off a bit during the second half but we still managed to achieve what the coach asked of us.”

“It's only the start. VAR can help make football cleaner and if a two-minute delay occurs for the good of our sport, then it will help the system to keep improving. As for our main objective, we want to get back in the Champions League. There were a lot of fans here to support us and it's also important that we won for them.”

“Spalletti has professionalism and charisma. He has improved our understanding of lots of things and we’ve worked well with all of his backroom staff. He was key in helping us put in a great performance today.”
