The Nerazzurri midfielder after the 3-0 win: "It was important to win, it's a good point to start from. We'll keep working to give our all and develop"

MILAN - Matias Vecino enjoyed a special debut in the Nerazzurri shirt as he won 3-0 on his first appearance. "The most important thing was to win, we did it and played well at times," he said. "I believe that it’s a good starting point for us, we have some room for improvement but we’re still at the start and we hope to keep developing."

"It was a very special debut for me and for Borja Valero who wore the purple shirt for many years but when you take to the pitch you look to stay focused and do your best. I’m very grateful to Fiorentina who brought me to Europe and showed faith in me. I hope that they can have a great season."

After a positive pre-season, Inter didn’t slip for the first competitive match. The Uruguayan midfielder responded to those who might question if Inter are on the right road: "It’s hard to make a judgement now, but I believe so. It was important not to give up, to keep working at our best as we’ve done so far. We’re only at the start. Let’s think about ourselves and what we can do and how we can play at our best every match."

Focus now turns immediately to the test of Roma on Saturday. "We’ve got another big fixture waiting for us," added Vecino. "We’re staying focused on each game as it comes and we’ll see where we can end up. I’ve always wanted to play, I make myself available to the team and the coach and it’s up to him to decide who plays. We have lots of good players in midfield and those who play have to do well because it’s important for the team."
