After navigating the group stage of the 70th Viareggio Cup with three wins, the Primavera Coach gave his assessment to Inter TV

ALTOPASCIO – Stefano Vecchi’s Under-19s won their final match in the group stage of the Coppa Carnevale 2-0 against Salernitana ahead of the Round of 16 which starts on Wednesday 21st March (location and kick-off times TBC). Marzupio and Visconti scored the decisive goals.

After the match, the Nerazzurri Coach spoke to Inter TV about what his side have done so far at the tournament. “To be honest, we had an easy group but we made the most of it by having a look at different guys who’ve shown their quality and they’ve played with the right attitude. I’ve seen positive responses from everybody but this has to be compared to the sides faced. We’ve scored eight and not conceded any; I’ve liked the spirit of the team.”

Vecchi’s focus then turned to next week and the Round of 16. “We have a limited squad because of those who are away with their countries and the standard at the tournament will inevitably be higher at the knockout stage. I have faith in my guys and if we play with this same attitude we can do well. Juventus, Fiorentina, Genoa, Sassuolo, Milan and Torino are all strong teams and candidates to win it.”

Finally, he looked to fire his players up: “The absences can also provide motivation, it’s a way for everyone to show that they’re worthy of Inter.”
