Esposito and Pirola picked for UEFA's U1 - 7 team of the tournament

The striker and defender both born in 2002 are among the youngsters picked by UEFA for their best XI


MILAN - Despite losing to the Netherlands in the final, it was a still a terrific European Championship campaign for the Italy Under-17s –one that now secures automatic World Cup qualification. Five members of the Azzurrini's squad were from Inter’s Elite Academy, including Lorenzo Pirola and Sebastiano Esposito who’ve been picked for the Team of the Tournament.

As the sole striker in a 4-5-1 formation, selected by UEFA’s technical observers, Esposito enjoyed a tremendous campaign. From a total of 480 minutes played, he registered two assists and four goals, his last strike being an inch-perfect free kick during the semi-final against France.

Meanwhile, Lorenzo Pirola helped the Azzurrini reach the final thanks to his quality in defence, also getting on the scoresheet against Spain.
