Inclusion, education and the right to play: these are the shared values between the two organisations which help children in difficult situations

MILAN - For over a year now, the L’abilità Onlus association and Inter Campus have been working together with the same shared objective: to create and promote effective and synergistic measures which can improve the quality of life of all children, help include them socially and guarantee them the right to play.

It’s a shared a commitment to make the game of football provide opportunities for social inclusion and to improve psycho-physical well-being, even for children with intellectual disabilities. Such children very rarely get the opportunity to experience sporting activities and games.

After first making contact with each other on the pitches at the Centre - a project by the Milan Community Foundation which looks to provide areas with accessible playing equipment in the public parks throughout the nine municipalities of Milan - the collaboration began with a training course for the coaches who work with Inter Campus. L’abilità Onlus’ director Carlo Riva and Elisa Rossoni, a pedagogist and coordinator of ‘Spazio Gioco’ (Space to Play) with L’abilità, offered their skills up to the Nerazzurri coaches and trained them in how interact and include children with intellectual disabilities in the game.

The first step of this renewed collaboration will see the two organisations come together to create inclusive play projects aimed at children with intellectual disabilities. They will also seek to put on activities which will raise awareness of the project on both a local and national level. This will particularly involve schools and local authorities who care for children with disabilities.
