Inter's captain reached an important milestone against Lazio

MILAN - Three hundred games in a Nerazzurri shirt. In the win against Lazio, Samir Handanovic reached an impressive and special milestone, that of 300 appearances for Inter (in all competitions). He did it in his own way, putting his stamp on a perfect match with a clean sheet thanks to four extraordinary saves from Caicedo, Correa (twice) and Bastos. Handanovic explained his footballing philosophy after the match: "Every season I feel myself improving, I don't set myself limits and as long as a player thinks he can improve he has to keep on playing."

Handanovic, born in '84, has now played 300 games for Inter, keeping 109 clean sheets and conceding a total of 319 goals. Over the last two seasons he has conceded an average of less than a goal per game. Handanovic has made 262 Serie A appearances, plus 19 in the UEFA Europa League, 9 in the Coppa Italia, 7 in the UEFA Champions League and 3 in Europa League qualifiers. Of the 300 matches played Handanovic has won 142. The Slovenian goalkeeper has been in between the sticks for Inter since the 2012/2013 season and in 2018/2019 he set his own personal record, playing 49 matches over the course of the season. But, above all, he left an important mark in Serie A TIM last season: 17 league clean sheets, a record which was recognised with the award of Best Goalkeeper in Serie A 2018/2019.

After his 300th appearance, Handanovic is now level with Julio Cesar: the Brazilian goalkeeper played 300 games for the Nerazzurri between 2005 and 2012. There are only two goalkeepers who have made more appearances for Inter: Walter Zenga, 473 between 1982 and 1994, and Ivano Bordon, 382 between 1970 and 1983.
