The Nerazzurri First Team Technical Manager: "Conte wants to leave his mark, we have high expectations"

APPIANO GENTILE – Ahead of Inter’s return to the pitch for their first fixture of 2020 against Napoli on matchday 18 of the Serie A TIM season, First Team Technical Manager Gabriele Oriali spoke to Sky Sport and SportMediaset today. This is what he had to say: “I truly am happy to be here because it was like coming back home for me, I couldn’t wait. I spent 30 years of my life at Inter, my whole family supports Inter and I also grew as a person here. I have a really strong bond with the Club.

“I’m fulfilling two roles at the moment, it’s demanding but gives me great satisfaction. This was a choice that was agreed upon with FIGC President Gravina and Roberto Mancini. It will carry on until the European Championship, then we’ll see what happens.”

As regards what Inter are currently doing: “We’re surpassing expectations, we didn’t think we’d be where we currently are at this point of the season. There’s still a lot of work to do, but the journey we’ve been on up to this point has been a positive one. We’ve had a few injuries and there are a lot of games to play, but things are going quite well. We’ll try to remain as high as possible, it isn’t easy as our competitors are strong.”

On the January transfer window: “We’re happy with those we have: the group is a great one, we’ve become a team and credit needs to go to the players. In addition, the Coach is exceptional, he always manages to achieve the maximum. We’re interested in seeing the arrival of players who know that they need to work hard and sacrifice themselves for the cause. We have objectives.

“Our results speak for Conte. He’s hands-on and involved in the project: he arrived with the right mentality and the intention to make an impact at Inter. He wants to leave a big mark here. The Club’s expectations are very high, time is required.”

Finally, Oriali spoke about Ibrahamovic’s return to Italian football: “I’m happy about it, I have an excellent relationship with him and, above all, great memories. The best one is related to Parma vs. Inter: he was injured but, prior to coming on, said that he’d score and we’d win the Scudetto. He was true to his word.”
