The Nerazzurri's No.27 kept a clean sheet after stepping to replace an injured Samir Handanovic

UDINE - The last time Daniele Padelli featured in Serie A was back on 28 August 2016, then for Torino. Now, 1253 days later, the Nerazzurri’s No.27 made his Inter debut in the league, having previously made two appearances in the Coppa Italia.

It also ended with all three points and a clean-sheet for Padelli, who made a hatful of important saves on an evening to remember. After the game, he spoke to Sky Sport and Inter TV: “Inter has always been my team and the side that I’ve always supported. When I found out that I would be playing, I first thought about whether I’d be well enough to play after the flu. I was excited, but now I’m happy and enjoying the moment.

“It’s tricky to make sure that you’re ready. Samir never gives up, he’s always playing and has proven himself to be the strongest out of anyone. Training with him has helped me a lot and for me, he’s the best goalkeeper in Europe. With him, Berni and the goalkeeping coach Bonaiuti, we’ve created a really close-knit group.

“I’m pleased because I proved to myself that I’ve always been training seriously to ensure that I’m ready. I didn’t do anything in particular, but I think I did well and I made my teammates feel at ease. The emotions all disappeared as soon as the whistle went.”
