His passion for Inter, his Nerazzurri idols and Federer. Anecdotes and facts about the Nerazzurri wing-back

MILAN – For Cristiano Biraghi, Inter isn’t just a team, it’s the place where his passion and a career have crossed paths. His Inter life can be divided into three parts: that of the fan, that of his beginnings in the Youth Sector and his Nerazzurri debut, and then his maturing and a return to where it all began. Here are five facts about the Nerazzurri wing-back that he revealed in his video chat with Inter TV and during his exclusive interview for the Matchday Programme.

1 – HIS GOAL AGAINST MANCHESTER CITY

It was 1 August, 2010 and there was a young footballer on tour with Inter, European champions, who, one month before becoming an adult, struck a right-footed thunderbolt into the top corner to seal the win against Manchester City: “It was great because I was in my first pre-season camp with the first team alongside some great champions. It’s true that it wasn’t an ‘official’ goal, but I’ve only scored a few so I’ll definitely remember it.”

2 – INTER, A TRUE PASSION

I’ve always supported Inter, my dad put a Nerazzurri shirt on me when I was born, so it could only go one way. Every time I wear this shirt for matches or training it’s fantastic and when I enter the Appiano Gentile Training Centre I remember how I wanted to be there as a child, and when I used to go there to try to get photos or autographs from the players, it’s a difficult feeling to describe…

3 – HIS FEELING UPON RETURNING

“When I came back, I knew I was a different man and a different player than the one who had left a few years before, and this is a source of pride for me because it was a personal victory.”

4 – TENNIS AND FEDERER

I’m very passionate about tennis, and I really like Federer because even though he’s a great champion, he’s remained a humble person and you can see that he never wants to stop learning and growing. He always maintains a unique state of mind, in victories and defeats, and I believe that consistency is a fundamental trait for a sportsman who wants to succeed.”

5 – HIS NERAZZURRI IDOLS

“Ronaldo, El Fenomeno, as an Inter fan was the player who made me the most excited. I experienced Chivu’s times first-hand, and he’s a great player and a great man so I’ve always admired him in every way.”
