The Uruguayan defender played a big part in the 2-1 win against Leverkusen

DÜSSELDORF - He fought until the end, with his header being the final touch of the game. Diego Godin was the leader of a defence that only allowed Leverkusen two shots on target in the entire game. After the match, the Uruguayan had this to say to Inter TV: “I think we deserved to win. We had to dig in a bit, but they didn’t create too many opportunities. We had the game under control and did a lot of good things, creating many chances to finish the game. We won, that’s what’s important.

We’re in a European semi-final for the first time in ten years and we’re really happy about that. We’ll see who it’s against, but before we will rest and recover a little bit. We’ll enjoy this moment, which is so important for us, the staff, the fans and all the Club. Football isn’t maths, we did concede but also played really well. Of course, we can improve in knowing when to press and when to cover: Leverkusen like to have a lot of possession and we knew that, but they didn’t have many chances.”

Finally, on defending in a back three: “It’s not been easy for me to come here and adjust to what the Coach demands, including from a physical perspective. I’m playing in a totally different way now. I’ve trained hard and feel good physically. I made myself available while also respecting my teammates. There is only one important thing: that Inter win.”
