MILAN - A draw which Inter will look back on with regret, as the Nerazzurri bossed the game and created plenty of chances, but didn’t quite do enough to find a way past Fiorentina on the night.
HANDANOVIC EQUALS FACCHETTI FOR SERIE A APPEARANCES
A big milestone for Samir Handanovic last night, who celebrated his 475th Serie A appearance with a clean sheet, his second in his last three games. Our Slovenian skipper, the record appearance holder for any non-Italian goalkeeper in Serie A, moves up to 22nd place in the all-time rankings for appearances in the Italian top flight, now level with Giacinto Facchetti. The legendary defender played all of his 475 games in Nerazzurri colours between 1960 and 1978, while Handanovic’s games are split with 289 for Inter, 182 for Udinese, three for Treviso and one for Lazio.
INTER’S SECOND 0-0 OF THE SEASON
Last night was Inter’s second draw in a row in the league, with the 0-0 against Fiorentina coming directly after Sunday’s 2-2 stalemate with Roma. This was just the second goalless draw of the season for the Nerazzurri, the first coming back in December against Roma at San Siro. Last night was also the first time Inter failed to score in a game since football’s return post-lockdown. In fact, in their last nine outings, the Nerazzurri have recorded an average of 2.8 goals per game.
A home draw with Fiorentina is something that neither side have seen at San Siro in their last 20 meetings, with the last one coming in a 2-2 full-time result back in November 1996.
DENIED BY THE WOODWORK
Inter have hit the post on 16 occasions in the current league campaign. Lukaku saw one of his efforts narrowly denied for the second time this season after also hitting the woodwork away to Verona, both coming after lockdown. The Nerazzurri hit the post twice in one Serie A game for the second time this season, having hit the upright three times against AC Milan.
