The boss speaking after Inter v Udinese: “Little time to prepare, but we have to keep moving in this direction"

MILAN – It was a second win in a row for Inter, who followed up their victory against Empoli with a 2-0 win over Udinese thanks to a Joaquin Correa brace at the San Siro.

“I wasn’t an easy game because Udinese are a very physical and well-organised team that have made life difficult for all their opponents,” was Simone Inzaghi’s comment at the end of the match.

“There wasn’t much time to prepare for the match, but we deserved to win, with patience and the help of everybody, from the starters to those who came off the bench. We've won two games in a row without conceding and we need to keep moving in this direction.”

Answering questions on the performance of Correa, the Inter coach explained: “In the first half, he did what I asked him to do; but there’s always the chance of making the wrong decision sometimes. I know the player well – he's a quality player and an important resource for us, as are all the forwards. We need everyone, because now that you can make five changes, and with so many games, the substitutes have become almost more important than the starters.”

With this victory, Inter move closer to the top of the table before AC Milan's and Napoli’s games. “We could have got a few more points, but games are often decided by individual moments. We saw this against Juventus with the penalty in the 90th minute. We have to look to the future. We'll enjoy this result, but then we'll turn immediately to the difficult away game in the Champions League and try to recover as much physical and mental energy as we can.”

Inter's next two league games are against Milan and Napoli. “They will be enormously important games, but first we have an even more important Champions League match. We must make sure we take one game at a time.

“We got a clean sheet today and we didn’t really risk at all,. We have a very strong defence, but the balance depends on all the team. We have the best attack, but we have all we need to become the best defence as well.”

A few words on the Champions League game against Sheriff: “From a logistical point of view, it's not an easy away game, and we'll be facing a team that has beaten both Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid. They made life difficult for us here at San Siro, but we did well and got the three points. We'll have to play at our best on their ground, because it won't be easy.”

Finally, on the question of Lautaro Martinez renewing his contract: “I'm fortunate to have a strong club behind me that helps me in every way. Lautaro’s renewal is exceptionally important and now we hope [Nicolo] Barella and [Marcelo] Brozovic do the same. [Giuseppe] Marotta, [Piero] Ausilio and [Dario] Baccin are always there to help me. We are very united and are all pulling in the same direction. When you have a strong club, the coach’s job is certainly easier.”
