The derby's stories, goals and protagonists

MILAN – The countdown to the #DerbyMilano has begun: on Sunday at 20:45 CET Simone Inzaghi's Inter face Stefano Pioli's AC Milan in what will be the 175th Milan derby. Looking ahead to Serie A Matchday 12 here are some interesting stats and facts:

  • Just two of Inter's last 25 goals in the #DerbyMilano in Serie A have been scored by defenders. Who?

Stefan de Vrij was responsible for both, with the Dutchman netting two headed goals: in the 3-2 away victory in March 2019 and the 4-2 home win in February 2020.

  • Which Inter player scored the fastest goal in a league derby since three points for a win were introduced?

MatiasVecino opened the scoring after 2 minutes and 31 seconds in the derby on 17 March 2019, which Inter went on to win 3-2. This beats Walter Samuel's match-winning header which saw Inter overcome Milan 1-0 away on 7 October 2012.

  • Lautaro Martinez netted a brace in the last Serie A derby. Who was the last Nerazzurri player to score two or more in back-to-back matches against AC Milan?

The Argentine hitman helped Inter to victory in their last away win over Milan, claiming a double in that match. The last player who scored twice in two derbies in a row was IstvanNyers, with the second game happening back on 6 February 1949.

  • Which Inter player has registered more assists than any other in the Milan derby over the last 15 years?

This accolade goes to IvanPerisic. The Croat has provided five assists during this timeframe.

  • Who is Inter's top scorer in Milan derbies in Serie A since three points for a win were introduced in the 1994/95 season and how many goals have they scored?

Diego Milito has scored more goals in the #DerbyMilano in Serie A than any other Inter player. He achieved this feat six times with the Nerazzurri, the first coming in Inter's 4-0 victory in August 2009, and the last on 6 May 2012.
