The defender looks back on a successful week for Inter after Saturday's win at Venezia

VENICE – Inter's 2-0 defeat of Venezia, in the same week as victories over Napoli and Shakhtar, further underlined the Nerazzurri's credentials, says Alessandro Bastoni.

“We knew this was a key week for us – the sort that a season can turn on,” the defender began. “Beating Napoli was the perfect start – a boost for morale as well as the league table of course. Then we defeated Shakhtar to reach the last 16 of the Champions League. Tonight was another show of our strength.

“It wasn't easy to come here and get the win. Venezia had won their last two and they beat Fiorentina as well. This is a tough place to come but we got our approach spot on and these are three huge points."

With Stefan de Vrij unavailable and Andrea Ranocchia on the bench, Bastoni slotted into the centre of the back three and produced a commanding display.

“I enjoyed it,” he continued. “I'd played there before and I have the example of some fantastic team-mates to follow in this position. I'll do whatever's needed to help the team.

“Now we have another important match against Spezia and we must make sure we're properly up for that one.”

Finally, there was a nod of thanks for the fans.

“We're grateful to them for all support they give us. They're always right behind us.”
