Numbers, fun facts and stats on Sunday's game

MILAN – Antonio Conte’s Inter are preparing to take on Fonseca’s Roma on Sunday 10 January at 12:30 CET. Ahead of this Serie A matchday 17 fixture, let’s take a look at all the stats, fun facts and records between the two sides.

HEAD-TO-HEAD AND PREVIOUS MEETINGS

This will be meeting number 175 between the two sides in Serie A. The Nerazzurri are ahead in the head-to-head record with 72 wins to the Giallorossi’s 49; 53 draws complete the picture. Inter have beaten Roma more times in Serie A (72) than they have any other side.

This fixture has produced more goals than any other in Serie A, since it became a round robin tournament: 503 in 174 games – 279 for the Nerazzurri (a record for a side against a single opponent in the competition) and 224 for the Giallorossi. Roma and Inter have drawn in their last five meetings in Serie A; this is the first time the two sides have played out five consecutive league draws. Ten of the last twelve Inter goals scored against Roma have come in the second half; the last goal scored in the first 45 was de Vrij’s effort on 19 July 2020.

RECORD WITH ROMA AS THE HOME SIDE

The two teams have faced off 87 times on Roma grounds. The record from the last three reads one Inter win and two 2-2 draws. In each of the last six meetings at the Olimpico, both sides have scored (a total of 23 goals in that time).

CURRENT FORM

With a defeat to Sampdoria, Inter ended their run of eleven straight games unbeaten (9W, 2D). The Nerazzurri go into this game on 36 points and in second in the table, one point behind AC Milan. Conte’s side have scored 41 goals in the league this season, making them Serie A’s most potent attacking force, and have conceded 21. Inter are first both for goals scored from corners (six) and headed goals (eight) this season. Furthermore, with his goal against Sampdoria, de Vrij became Inter’s eleventh goalscorer in Serie A this season.

Roma are unbeaten in twelve home games in the league (9W, 3D); their longest run without defeat at home ended in February 2017, when they had reached 24. The Giallorossi have won each of their last three games – against Cagliari, Sampdoria and Crotone – and currently sit on 33 points after ten wins, three draws and three defeats. Fonseca’s men have scored 35 goals and conceded 24.
