Inter fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Real Madrid in the final game of Group D in the Champions League. Both teams had already qualified for the following round but Real managed to finish top ahead of the Nerazzurri. The draw for the round of 16 is on Monday 13 December.
Simone Inzaghi's side enjoyed a positive first half, creating numerous goalscoring chances through Ivan Perisic, Lautaro Martinez, Edin Dzeko, and Nicolo Barella, but Real's defence was able to repel the siege. The hosts then took the lead after 17 minutes through Toni Kroos and nearly doubled their advantage just before the break when Rodrygo's effort hit the post.
Barella had a great chance to equalise early in the second half but blazed over. He then saw red in the 64th minutes after reacting to a challenge by Eder Militao. Marco Asensio then sealed the match in the 79th minute with a lovely curling effort.
