Stats and facts from Inter's quarter-final triumph over Roma

MILAN – Coppa Italia nights at San Siro certainly are filled with emotions and eye-catching goals. Think back to Andrea Ranocchia’s stunner in the last 16 against Empoli or enjoy the brilliance of Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez in the convincing win over Roma that sealed Inter’s semi-final berth on Tuesday.

DZEKO SCORES AFTER 104 SECONDS

The first moment of pure excitement against Roma at San Siro on Tuesday night was not long in coming, with the whole crowd on its feet to applaud Dzeko’s unstoppable volley with under two minutes on the clock. It was the Bosnian’s third goal in the Coppa Italia and his earliest since he touched down in Italy ahead of the 2015/16 campaign. The opener against the Giallorossi was also the fastest Inter goal in all competitions since Romelu Lukaku needed just 32 seconds to break the deadlock against Genoa in February 2021.

SANCHEZ THE CUP KING

Fantastic all-round play and marvellous goals were defining characteristics of the display against Roma. Dzeko’s opener was added to by a determined Sanchez, who powered home a thunderbolt of a strike that flew into the top corner from all of 25 yards out. It was the Chilean’s first Inter goal from outside the box out of his 17 to date since joining the club at the start of 2019/20.

The strike against the Giallorossi cemented Sanchez’s position as the cup king, having found the net in the Champions League against Sheriff, in the Italian Super Cup against Juventus and now twice in the Coppa Italia against Empoli and Roma, accounting for four of his last six goals.

KEY STATS

Inter have now gone ten games unbeaten against Roma in all competitions for the first time in the club’s history. For the first time since 2005, the Nerazzurri have managed to keep back-to-back clean sheets against the Giallorossi. Inter have reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals in three consecutive seasons for the first time since 2011.
