— Sep 22nd 2025Our captain takes 20th place, with Denzel finishing in 25th. Yann Sommer came third in the Yashin Trophy
On the evening of 22 September, the 2025 Ballon d'Or Awards Ceremony took place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The 69th edition of the trophy awarded by France Football went to PSG forward and French national Ousmane Dembélé who became the sixth Frenchman in history to win the Ballon d'Or. Three Nerazzurri were honoured at the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony: Lautaro Martinez and Denzel Dumfries were in the list of the top 30 players, while Yann Sommer was one of the ten goalkeepers nominated for the Yashin Trophy. Lautaro Martinez came 20th and Denzel Dumfries came 25th. Yann Sommer came 3rd in the Yashin Trophy.
LAUTARO MARTINEZ: 20TH PLACE
It is the Nerazzurri captain's fourth Ballon d'Or nomination. This achievement recognises his fantastic year. Throughout last season, he reached a series of milestones which etched his name into the Inter history books once again: his winner against Roma made him level with Nyers, before he then pulled away to become the Nerazzurri's best ever non-Italian goalscorer, winning the Golden Foot in November. Goals in Europe and much more, Lautaro has produced many unforgettable moments: important hat-tricks, important goals against Monaco, Bayern and Barcelona, right up to equalling and overtaking legends like Adriano, Mazzola and Benito Lorenzi in the all-time Inter goalscorers list. It is a fantastic achievement and this undoubtedly pushed him on to take over Mazzola and to become Inter's top goalscorer in the Champions Cup/Champions League. He is currently on 21 goals. An outstanding 2025, always taking centre stage, and making the difference.
DENZEL DUMFRIES: 25TH PLACE
Powerful, dynamic and a taste for goal. He has just celebrated 100 Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri after an outstanding year.
2025 opened with a brace in the Supercup against Atalanta. Dumfries wore the captain's armband against Feyenoord for the first time, another sign of his growth and the importance of his role in the dressing room.
He had an incredible Champions League campaign: the Dutchman put in a fantastic performance in the first-leg of the semi-final against Barcelona, full of energy, running, grit, and getting an assist and scoring two incredible goals. He was then named the Man of the Match. He then got two assists at San Siro in the second leg. The numbers of a world class player, able to make the difference on the most important of nights.
YANN SOMMER: 3RD IN THE YASHIN TROPHY
Experience, leadership and world-class saves. Yann Sommer had an intense season, during which he proved himself to be a real leader in between the sticks. His performances earned him third place in the 2025 Yashin Trophy. From the very beginning to the end of season rush, the Swiss keeper made some extraordinary stops. His composure gave so much to the team, especially in the Champions League when he played incredibly well over two legs against Bayern Munich, and who can forget that wonder stop against Barcelona to deny Yamal.
