Côte d'Ivoire secured a last-gasp victory in their World Cup opener against Ecuador thanks to Amad Diallo's 90th-minute winner.
It was an entertaining and open contest at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia between two well-organised and talented teams. Played at a high tempo, the match featured chances at both ends, with both sides also striking the woodwork in a festive atmosphere inside a stadium packed predominantly with South American supporters. Just when the game appeared to be heading for a goalless draw, Côte d'Ivoire found the decisive goal in the 90th minute through Amad Diallo, who converted Singo's low cross. Ange-Yoan Bonny, who started on the bench, made his World Cup debut in the 56th minute after replacing Wahi.
It was an important victory for Côte d'Ivoire, who moved level with Germany at the top of Group E after the Germans had defeated Curaçao 7-1 earlier in the day.
