A huge win in a difficult match, in which the deadlock was broken late on by Pio Esposito, the forward's first goal at San Siro. The win over Lecce allows Inter to rise to 46 points after 20 matches. One match after another: first, the draw with Napoli, and then the win tonight, before the away trip to Udinese and the Champions League clash against Arsenal. Carlos Augusto, one of Inter's best players tonight, and Piotr Zieliński, commented on the win at San Siro.
“It was a great team win, three important points. There are always matches like this, difficult ones against sides who defend well. In the end, the important thing was doing our job, giving our all and continuing in this way. The Coach has confidence in us: he knows that we're responsible players and that we will give our all for Inter. Even without training, we all gave our all on the pitch today. Remaining concentrated on the match is the most important thing. The first half was difficult, it's partly our own fault because we were slow on the ball and not ourselves. But there are matches like that this, you can’t always play every game at your best. They did very well and stayed compact in defence. In the end, though, you can see the strength of our group: everyone united for a cause, everyone focused on winning and giving their all. In the end we look at all the matches, but as I always say, we have to focus on ourselves. If we don’t win our own game, the results of the others don’t matter. We need to think first about doing our job, and only afterwards look at what happens elsewhere.”
Carlos Augusto
“It’s always nice to be up there at the top, but we know that, there are still a lot of matches to play and many points up for grabs. We have to stay focused because, even tonight, we saw that Lecce are an excellent team: you always have to suffer, there are no easy games. We have to give our all every time. In the first half we lacked dynamism: we were moving the ball too much, whereas, we could have sped things up and made better use of our qualities. In the second half we did well, increased the tempo, and in the end we were rewarded with Pio’s goal.”
