— Mar 11th 2025Another match filled with running, substance and endless energy: Denzel Dumfries put in a spectacular performance against Feyenoord. For the full-back, born and raised in Rotterdam, it was all about a special double-header, which had a special meaning to it just before the second-leg. The last minute absence of Stefan De Vrij meant that Denzel was made the captain for the match: the number two wore the armband for the very first time as an Inter player.
Dumfries spoke about this immediately after the match alongside Benjamin Pavard and Carlos Augusto:
“It was a brilliant game, a special evening for us, I'm happy that we're going to the quarters, we'll face Bayern who are a good side. I feel good, I'm in form, I want to continue in this way, I played well tonight and I'm happy. We are a strong side, we all want to win against everyone but we play with a lot of concentration and we want to continue in this way. The armband? I am proud, my first time as Inter captain is a special moment for me, it's a special evening. ”
Denzel Dumfries
“We put in a good display in the first-leg, we knew that we couldn't take this match lightly. Now, we've qualified but we need to recover ahead of the Atalanta game on Sunday. We have a lot of injuries, but the team's strength lies within in the mental aspect: it's not easy having to play every three days, but we never give up, I am very proud of my teammates. The fighting spirit of this team is one of the secrets: the forwards are the first defenders, we've done well since the start of the Champions League. It's a shame that we conceded, but qualifying is the main thing. I am happy that we're facing Bayern and I can return to Munch, I spent four great years there winning many trophies, I still have a lot of friends there. We will need to put the emotions to the side, we want to beat Bayern and qualify. ”
Benjamin Pavard
“It was a big win, we showed again that those who don't play as much know they are still important and always work hard. We changed a lot today, guys from the Primavera side came on: we need everyone, we need everyone, we have to play like this and stay concentrated at all times. The Champions League is difficult and we have to be aware at all times: even after the first-leg we know that Feyenoord would still be strong. We are an intelligent side and we know that we have to be concentrated to win trophies. I'm doing well, I did all I could to get back as soon as possible, I trained for a few days with the team, but I am ready to help the team: now we need to recover because there is a big game on Sunday. Every player wants to win the Champions League: it's difficult but we're concentrated. Now we have Bayern Munich, this is a big family and we want to win everything: we will do our best. Unlike last year, I think we will have to fight until the last matchday: for this we will have to try and win all of the games, it doesn't matter who the opponent is. We are working hard and it'll be a big match on Sunday. ”
