Chivu: "The lads stepped up"

— Aug 25th 2025The thoughts of the Nerazzurri head coach after the season-opening win over Torino: "I saw the right mentality and intensity"
After intense preparations to be at their best for the season opener, Inter kicked off their league campaign with an excellent team performance. With the new arrivals catching the eye, the Nerazzurri showed the fruits of their hard work on the training ground and a real hunger to celebrate once more with the fans. This is what Cristian Chivu had to say after the game:
“I’m really happy for the lads, with what they showed on the pitch, and with the work they’ve put in over the last three weeks. They took on some heavy training loads and produced a fine performance today. We wanted to be at our best for the first game of the season, and, with the mentality, aggression and intensity we displayed, as well as the way in which we defended our goal and looked to get the ball forward quickly, I have to say they did a fantastic job and I’m delighted. My celebration after the first goal? I was pleased because set-pieces are also something the staff work hard on. I was happy for Bastoni and for everyone, because we deserved a start like this. Today, everyone stepped up. I’m pleased for Sucic, who played a great game, for Bonny, who scored on his debut at San Siro, as well as for Diouf, who came on for a few minutes, and Luis Henrique. They all gave a lot and did well. There’s still plenty to work on, but I’m satisfied. We don’t have to prove anything to anyone. We just need to be ourselves and have the right ambition to approach the league in the best possible way.”
