A first season in the Nerazzurri dugout that goes straight into the history books. Cristian Chivu guided Inter to their 21st Scudetto and, for his extraordinary work, was awarded Serie A Coach of the Season 2025/26.
The award recognises a league title secured with three matches to spare, the culmination of a campaign in which the Nerazzurri displayed remarkable attacking numbers and played football of the highest level. The achievement places the Romanian coach in a special place in Inter history: before Chivu, only Armando Castellazzi had managed to win the Scudetto with Inter as both a player and a coach. The award was voted upon by a jury composed of directors of sports media outlets, who assessed individual coaches according to technical and sporting criteria, the quality of football played by their teams, and their conduct and fair play during matches.
A success built on the values of Interismo, through humility and dedication: Chivu succeeded in putting players in the conditions to be the best version of themselves, earning their trust and always placing team unity first. The results on the pitch were formidable, earned by a united group driven towards a common objective, and made possible through the ideals of their coach: 86 points from 37 matches, consisting of 27 wins and 5 draws, with 86 goals scored and 32 conceded. Outstanding numbers that enabled Chivu to claim this prestigious recognition.
“This season with Cristian Chivu in charge has been nothing short of extraordinary. In his first full season in charge of a professional side from the start of the campaign, Chivu immediately displayed the winning DNA that had defined him as a player, guiding his team to express football that was both solid and dynamic. The Nerazzurri averaged more than two goals per game and had a goal difference almost 30 goals greater than the side in second place. It took Chivu just 48 Serie A matches as a coach to be crowned Champion of Italy — second only to José Mourinho in the three-points-for-a-win era. By adding the Coppa Italia to the Scudetto, he also became the only coach to secure this historic domestic double in his first season in the Inter dugout. These numbers and records confirm Cristian Chivu’s rightful place among the leading coaches in Serie A.”
