Inter's league campaign continues at San Siro, where the Nerazzurri will face Pisa in front of ther home crowd, on Matchday 22 of Serie A. Kick-off is set for Friday 23 January at 20:45 CET. Chivu's side won 2-0 in the away game to Pisa, thanks to a brace from Lautaro Martinez.
Inter will wear their fourth kit to face the Tuscan side.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Inter and Pisa have faced each other 15 times in Serie A with history favouring the Nerazzurri. Inter have won nine games, Pisa three, complete with three draws. The most recent has also been firmly in favour of Inter, who have won the last six games against Pisa in the top flight, scoring 18 goals, an average of three per game.
In the last two Serie A meetings, the Nerazzurri have also kept clean sheets and could now record three in-a-row against the Tuscan side for the first time in the competition. At San Siro, Inter’s dominance is clear: six wins in seven home matches, including the last five, with Pisa’s only victory there dating back to 6 March 1983.
There is one meeting in particular that made history. Inter are the team against whom Pisa have conceded the most away goals in Serie A, 22 in total, including six in their last visit to the Meazza in October 1990, a thrilling 6-3 victory for Giovanni Trapattoni’s Inter.
NERAZZURRI STATS
Inter head into the match on the back of two consecutive Serie A clean sheets against Lecce and Udinese and could record at least three straight games without conceding for the first time since December 2024-January 2025, when they put together a run of four clean sheets.
The Nerazzurri are the only team to have won every match played against sides currently in the bottom half of the table: ten wins from ten, conceding just four goals and scoring 25. This figure fits into an even broader picture: no club across Europe’s top five leagues has won more matches while keeping a clean sheet than Inter (11 in total), six of which have come in their last nine Serie A games.
According to the Opta Power Rankings, Inter currently sit 10th among the strongest teams in the world. Going forward, the Nerazzurri also boast the best conversion rate in the league, at 12%.
THE CAPTAIN'S RECORD
Captain and leader, Lautaro Martinez continues to make the difference. With 11 goals in 21 appearances in the 2025/26 Serie A season, the Argentine is just one goal away from matching his total from last season, when he finished on 12 goals in 31 matches. His record against newly promoted sides is particularly impressive. 16 goals in his last 20 such games, including the brace he scored against Pisa on 30 November.
Since making his Serie A debut, only Ciro Immobile has scored more opening goals than Lautaro, who has 39 goals that broke the deadlock, the latest coming against Udinese. With 126 Serie A goals for Inter, a brace against Pisa would see him draw level with Alessandro Altobelli on 128, moving him into joint fourth place among Inter’s all-time top scorers in the competition.
THE RISE OF PIO
Born in 2005, Francesco Pio Esposito continues to improve game after game. He is the youngest Italian player to have been involved in at least five goals across Europe’s top five leagues this season. He has scored twice and provided three assists, including the assist for Lautaro in the most recent match against Udinese.
After scoring against Lecce and providing an assist versus the Friulani, he could register a goal involvement in three consecutive Serie A appearances for the first time since November 2024, when he was playing in Serie B with Spezia and recorded three goals and one assist across three straight matches.
BARELLA AND ZIELINSKI: QUALITY IN CHARGE
Piotr Zielinski has become a key figure in Inter’s possession game. Since December, no Nerazzurri player has completed more passes in the opposition half (207), and he is also the only one to boast a 100% success rate in dribbles, completing all eight he has attempted.
Nicolò Barella, meanwhile, is the team’s creative heartbeat. No player has created more chances for teammates in this Serie A season, with 50, level with Aarón Martín. Looking across Europe’s top five leagues, only Bruno Fernandes, David Raum and Kylian Mbappé have created more than the Inter midfielder.
THE OPPONENT: PISA
Pisa head to San Siro sitting second from bottom of the table. The Tuscan side have 14 points, with one win, eleven draws and nine defeats. Despite conceding more away goals than any other team in the league this season (20), Pisa have still scored 14 times on the road.
It has been a difficult period for Gilardino’s side, who have recorded the fewest wins across Europe’s top five leagues this season. They have taken three points from their last five matches, all from draws against Genoa (1-1), Udinese (2-2) and Atalanta (1-1), alongside defeats to Juventus and Como.
Pisa are expected to line up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, with Scuffet between in goal; Calabresi, Caracciolo and Canestrelli at the back; Touré, Marin, Aebischer and Angori across midfield; and Tramoni operating behind the strike duo of Durosinmi and Meister.
