A thrilling night at the BVB Stadion: Inter beat Dortmund 2-0 thanks to goals from Dimarco and Diouf, finishing the 2025/26 Champions Leaue phase in tenth place.
With this win, the Nerazzurri qualift for the playoffs as a seeded side and will face either Benfica or Bodo/Glimt.
The star performer tonight was Federico Dimarco, who opened the scoring in the 81st minute with a spectacular free kick. After the game, he commented:
“First and foremost, wearing the captain's armband from the start for the first time is a really special feeling. As for the match, I think we played well: we created a lot of chances in the first half but weren't able to convert them, perhaps we were just missing the final pass or the shot on goal. We've grown a lot over these last few months, and we beat a strong team, especially on their home turf. We then scored these two goals, which made us believe that we were in with a shot of direct qualification to the round of 16, everyone on the bench was telling us as much, but ultimately, we'll go through the play-offs and we'll give it our all. That's ok, we're happy with the win. Diouf really deserves this goal: he's a player who works really hard and doesn't complain. I've found that sense of calm again that I felt was missing. We know that for any player the most important thing is confidence. The more confidence you have, the better you play, and the better you do, the happier you are, and the more you can keep going.”
