It was a very bitter evening for Inter who were convincingly beaten by PSG in Munich, in the Champions League Final. At the end of the match Nicolò Barella and Francesco Acerbi had this to say in their interviews.
“We lacked everything tonight, and we are disappointed as this is the sad end of our journey, but I am proud of this team who in the last few years has given everything in all competitions. We are upset and it is a difficult time to express what we're feeling, we will try to roll up our sleeves and come back. Speaking after is all too simple, there are situations in a game that can change in no time at all: for example their second goal came from a counter attack from our corner at the other end. In the second half, we tried to push up the field, knowing we would be taking risks, but PSG continued to show their quality. We have always recovered from losses. and we have always tried to lift ourselves back up again when we fall. Today is a huge hit for us, but the only way to get back to our best is by working. Fatigue cannot be an excuse in the final, the biggest regret is that they seemed to want it more. We faced Bayern and Barcelona, games where the tactics were more important, but today it went differently. In the second half, we tried to get up the pitch more, but then there was more space for them to create chances, and they made the most of them every time".”
Nicolò Barella
“We were a little restrained, they were going twice as fast as us. There are games which leave a bitter taste: the mental game was definitely really important, but their strengths were clear to see. I am disappointed, but there's not much to say: they were unplayable, but it was also our fault. In the second half, we tried to push on a little more, but to no avail: we were mentally and physically blocked. But we are still proud of the path that has led us to our second final in three years. Now we will need to understand what we were missing mentally and from there, we will get going again. Me and my teammates are sorry, but we must keep our heads held high as it is not easy getting this far in these competitions.”
