Chivu: "The win showed our maturity. We've grown a lot."

— 2 hours agoThe words of the Nerazzurri coach after the 2-0 win over Dortmund in the final match of the league phase, which qualifies Inter for the play-offs
An emotion-fuelled night at the BVB Stadion, where Inter defeated Dortmund 2-0 thanks to goals from Dimarco and Diouf, sealing a tenth-place finish in the league phase. With this result, the Nerazzurri qualify for the knockout phase play-offs as a seeded team, where they will face either Benfica or Bodø/Glimt. After the final whistle, the Inter head coach gave his thoughts:
“We mustn’t look back at what we haven't managed to achieve yet, but focus on what we've earned. It hasn't been easy — it wasn't tonight either, in this stadium, against this team and with the energy that Dortmund's supporters can generate. We played a serious, mature match. Perhaps we could have shown more hunger and greater sharpness in the first half, in the situations we created when moving forward, but still, I repeat that we’re happy, because this team is working hard: over the last two months the growth has been exponential, and a result like this can give a huge boost in self-belief and confidence. Right now, my only focus is on facing Cremonese on Sunday, because for me the next match is always the most important match of the season. We’re staying here overnight, travelling tomorrow and then training, with the next game in our minds at all times — the next one is always the most important. How's Dimarco? You should ask him. We’re very happy with how his season has started, with the mentality he showed from the beginning and still has now, with his desire to work hard and to be decisive. He’s always had quality and has always shown it. At the moment we get to appreciate a mature, complete player who is of huge importance to us, and we’re very pleased with what he’s doing. The credit goes to these players, who were quick to embrace our demands and what we’ve tried to pass on. I think the key word for everything that happens within this group, in this dressing room, is humility. There are 25 players who try to do everything they can to be protagonists, knowing that each of them, in turn, will have the chance to step up and make an important contribution to the team. Today I’d also like to highlight the performances of Sommer and Luis Henrique, as well as Diouf, who came on patiently, worked well, didn’t complain, and understood how important — and how difficult — it is to wear this shirt, given the expectations that rightly surround Inter. He came on with the right spirit, and I’m happy that he got off the mark and scored. He has to keep going like this, and we will too. We’ve reached an important level of maturity, where work always comes first and humility is never lacking, regardless of the opponent we face. We’re aware that you can win or lose, but what we must never lose is our attitude and our mentality. ”
