— Sep 19th 2026The Nerazzurri captain’s words after his decisive brace helped Inter make a comeback to draw at Roma
Another comeback, another brace, and another roar of joy and determination in front of the Nerazzurri fans. Once again, it was the Captain. Two goals to bring Inter level with Roma and lead the team to a hard-earned point after a difficult first half. Lautaro Martinez is the heart, soul and leader of Inter, the first to believe in any challenge. Once again, he made his mark on a day of great emotion for the Nerazzurri following the passing of a legend like Sandro Mazzola, whom El Toro paid tribute to after the game.
Two goals from a true goalscorer, a finisher who sees and anticipates situations before they develop, trusts his instincts and finds a way to finish, whether with technique or sheer power. He is the symbol of an Inter side that never gives up and never considers a result lost.
Here are Lautaro Martinez’s words after Inter made a comeback to draw with Roma at the Olimpico.
“Sandro Mazzola was an Inter and Italian football legend. He was a great figure in our history, and my thoughts are with his family at this time. As for the game, we played a first half that we need to forget, but in the second half we changed our mentality and our attitude. When you get a half wrong, it becomes difficult to chase the game, but we take an important point for our journey. Considering how Roma are playing, it’s a very good point. It’s a matter of attitude. We prepare for games properly, but our attitude doesn’t always show that, and then we have to turn the score around. I’ve taken good care of my body. The Club World Cup was extremely demanding for me last year, so this season I’ve paid close attention to my fitness to make sure I was ready from the start. Even at the Club World Cup, we played a lot of games having to chase the result, but for me it was crucial to be at my best at the start of the season because the most important thing is to give everything for Inter.”
