Thuram: "We played really well, it's all to play for"

— Apr 30th 2025The thoughts of the Inter forward, who scored the opener after 30 seconds away to Barcelona
How do you define genius? Intuition, decision and quick execution. It's the perfect way to describe Marcus Thuram's goal after 30 seconds in the Champions League semi-final first leg: the 3-3 draw was kicked off by this backheel goal - not even from a low cross. The ball came in at speed from Dumfries and was met by Marcus to score the fastest goal in a Champions League semi-final. It is also the second quickest goal scored by Inter at the start of a Champions League match following Dejan Stankovic's goal against Schalke in April 2011 (26 seconds).
An important finish following his returning from injury, which also received compliments from his Father Lillian, who was pitch side at the end of the match,
“It was a very open match against a very strong team, probably the best in the world at the moment. We played well until the end. Maybe we conceded some avoidable goals but there's still the second leg to play at San Siro: it's open. I spoke with Inzaghi before the match, he spoke to me as a great Coach and ex-player. I'm happy to be back on the pitch, at this moment in the season, lots of players aren't at 100%. Even still, you want to give your all for this shirt. My Father saw my goal? Yeah, but the match had just started when I scored, he always wants more from me. Yamal? Brilliant player, he impressed me. ”
