After the win over Barcellona at San Siro midweek, Inter backed that up with a win today against Sassuolo, winning 2-1 at Mapei Stadium thanks to a Edin Dzeko double. At the end of the game, Simone Inzaghi spoke about the game:
"We wanted to win so badly. We came into the game on the back of a very intense game on Tuesday and we came up against a very good side. We knew it was going to be a tough game, but the lads wanted to win so much. They are two victories that helps our morale and our league position. Now, we go to Barcellona and then we have another league game. It's a delicate and important period, we need to recharge the batteries."
"Handanovic's motivational speech prior to the game? Samir is a vital element both on and off the pitch. Only in this way do we move forward and continue our journey. I think the players who came on in the second half gave us a big helping hand. They played really well because we were tired but we were better on the ball in the last 25 minutes and that helped us see out the game. You always have to play well against Sassuolo from a technical point of view and the team is physically well so i'm really pleased."
"I believe that Kristjan was exceptional against Roma and today wasn't easy. It was also difficult for him because of the yellow card , but I'm very happy with how he's doing because he's still so young and only just come in. He gives me a lot of satisfaction."
"Edin was superb, also Lauti did well and I thought he was a little unfortunate. I'm sorry he didn't get a goal, but it'll soon come if he continues to play like that."
"Onana followed on from his Champions League performance. He's a quality goalkeeper and in two months has shown that he can come in and replace a champion like Handanovic, when needed."
