A story that began a long time ago, a story destined to continue: on the occasion of his contract extension until 2032, Pio Esposito spoke exclusively to Inter TV:
Pio, you and Inter together until 2032: what does this mean to you and how important is this contract renewal? "I have to say, it's a really emotional moment. When I got in the car to come here, I had butterflies in my stomach. Why? Because I feel that this is an important milestone in my life and my career, even though it's absolutely not a finishing point. Instead, it's a starting point from which to continue working in this way. It's recognition for the work I've done so far, and now I need to keep working like this."
You were nine years old when you first wore the Inter shirt. Looking back on the football journey you've had, what would you say to that version of yourself today? "I would definitely tell myself to always believe, during the best moments and during the more difficult ones too. Keep believing and, above all, always work as hard as possible, because sooner or later, hard work brings results."
How much has Coach Chivu influenced your development? You had already worked with him at Primavera level. "A lot. I also worked with Coach Chivu at Under-14 level. He's always had great faith in me and held me in high regard, so meeting him again in the First Team was incredibly important for me. He gave me an opportunity that I had dreamed about my entire life. I'm happy that, up to now, I've been able to repay his trust, and I hope and want to continue doing so."
Since returning to Inter, you have won two trophies in one season and scored 10 goals individually. What personal objectives do you have for the future? "Whether we're talking about trophies or statistics, the important thing is to keep moving forward, never be satisfied and always continue to improve. I don't like giving a precise number of goals or statistics, but my objective is to always try to improve myself, both as a player and as a person."
What message would you like to leave for the fans, with whom you share such a special bond? "First of all, I want to thank them, because from the very first day I returned to the First Team, I received an incredible welcome. I just want to say thank you: I'm very happy to continue this journey together."
