Two goals and a wonderful first-leg victory for Inter in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. From the Estádio da Luz, these were the post-match comments this evening:
“Penalties are all about your mind, focus and preparation. I don’t listen to anyone; I’m only focused on the ball. I need to keep on looking forward and try to help the team in whatever way I can. Just like my teammates, I’m giving so much. We have the responsibility to do well for this Club. We played an intelligent match and could have scored more, but a 2-0 win against a team like this is an important result. We need to produce such performances in the league; the aim is to do well on all fronts. We prepared well for tonight’s match, approached it with plenty of desire and were able to come out on top. We now hold a solid advantage, but we still need to earn our place in the next round. It’s an important moment, and we’ll try to go as far as possible.”
Romelu Lukaku
“We displayed heart and intelligence and used our heads out on the pitch. It was a very difficult match, but we showed we can play our best and win games like this. We have players and a team full of quality. We fought hard, played in all areas of the pitch and showed that we came here to win. We’re happy, but now we’ll focus on Monza before the return fixture. We need to win another match to make it into the semi-finals. ”
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
“I’m delighted with the team’s work. We produced an excellent performance and picked up a big victory against a strong side. It’ll also be difficult at home in the return leg because Benfica are a really good outfit. We’re a great team and need to show this in our next match against Monza, too. Then, we’ll have to play well in the return fixture, just like we did today. We need to fight on all fronts, and I’m very happy with what we’re doing. ”
Andrè Onana
