A disappointing result for Inter in Norway against Bodø/Glimt. The Nerazzurri were beaten 3-1 in the first leg of the Champions League playoff, but in six days Chivu’s side will have the chance to turn things around at San Siro, fighting for a place in the round of 16.

It’s a tough result, but everything is still to play for ahead of the return leg, as highlighted by Pio Esposito, Matteo Darmian and Petar Sucic in their post-match interviews:

“It's hard to give a comprehensive analysis right after the game. They came into the game with the right mindset and attitude to dominate the match, and we were able to respond with the equaliser. In the second half, they were a bit stronger and scored two goals. We tried to regain control of the game and respond, but we couldn't find that opportunity. The goal? Tonight we lost, and we now turn our focus to Lecce before preparing for the return leg. This defeat is definitely painful, but we're lucky that we get to go again. Bodø are a strong side, even if they aren't known for it yet. They have beaten teams like Manchester City and Atlético Madrid, and they've won most of the European matches at home. Maybe they're underrated, but they're organised and very strong at home. I don't think we had an attitude issue. They deserve the praise for this win, and we could and should have done better. ”

Pio Esposito

“I'm not sure what exactly made it so hard for us. There was a lot of talk about the cold and the pitch conditions, but that isn't an excuse. Tonight, we're going home with a negative result. We wanted to do better, we wanted a different result, but instead we're taking home a heavy defeat. Now we need to go back and analyse what went wrong, work hard during the week, and be ready in six days at San Siro. I don't think we underestimated the game. It started well, but in the second half we made a few mistakes and they did well to capitalise on them. But, it's still all to play for me. I felt good out there tonight, I've been out injured for a while, probably the longest of my career. It wasn't an easy time, but my teammates and the staff were really close and have helped me come back in the best possible way. Now I'm feeling better and I want to help the team, as I always have, making myself available whenever I’m called upon and giving everything to this team. What will we need in the second leg? We’ll need to be focused and determined, just as we’ve been all season. We have to cut out the mistakes we saw tonight, but it’s still all to play for. We’ll analyse what went wrong so we don’t repeat it and make sure the game at San Siro is different so we can go through.”

Matteo Darmian

“We need to analyse this loss, but nothing is decided. We have another leg ahead of us to try and turn things around. The pitch was the same for us and for them, we can't make excuses. We’re Inter and we have to perform at the highest level every time. Now we need to stay calm and give everything to try and go through. ”
