Sommer and Darmian: "Tough opponents: that's football for you"

— Jan 15th 2025The thoughts of the goalkeeper and wing-back after the draw with Bologna
After a hard-fought, open and intense affair, Inter played out a 2-2 draw with Bologna at San Siro. Yann Sommer and Matteo Darmian both gave their thoughts after the game:
“This match can be explained easily: they pressed us well, did a lot of running and closed all the spaces. In the first half, we were calmer on the ball and found the spaces between the lines better, but we didn’t do this as well after the restart. We’ll take this point and look ahead. My aim is to be a good goalkeeper for this team. That’s what motivates me, and I want to be consistent throughout the campaign. We need to fight for points and produce big performances, but I think it’s a good point today: there were chances for both sides. Now, we’ll focus on Sunday’s match against Empoli, another home fixture.”
“There’s a bit of disappointment: we always take to the pitch to win and, in front of our fans, wanted to extend our winning run this evening. We need to look ahead because we’ve got another match coming up on Sunday. I don’t know what was missing, but we’ll analyse the game and see where we could have done better and look at what we did well. We could have perhaps done better in the opening half an hour, and we knew that Bologna are an aggressive side who play man-to-man and like to press high. We lost a few too many balls but responded well after conceding and didn’t lose our cohesion. However, we conceded two avoidable goals, even if we were a bit unlucky. That’s football for you, and we’ll start focusing on our next match tomorrow. In some situations, we could perhaps manage the moments of the game better, but draws like this one can happen over the course of the season. We’ll move forward with the same desire to work as always, if not even more than usual.”
