Career Story

Diop Tehuti Djed-Hotep Spence was born in London on August 9, 2000, to Jamaican parents. It was his mother who first took him to the Peckham Town training ground when Djed was six years old.

Five years later, he joined Junior Elite, a local club from the Croydon area, where Spence initially stood out as an attacking winger. He was then moved into a full-back role and, given his excellent performances in his new position, his coach decided to deploy him further back.

He subsequently joined the Fulham youth academy before moving to Middlesbrough, where he made his Championship debut in the 2019/20 season.

In 2021, he joined Nottingham Forest and, with the Reds, Spence really spread his wings, enjoying a brilliant season and helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League. That campaign propelled him into the spotlight, prompting Tottenham to bring him back to London in the summer of 2022.

Tottenham opted to send him out on loan, giving Spence the chance to gain new experiences and leave England for the first time. He first moved to France with Rennes, then returned to England with Leeds, before arriving in Serie A with Genoa.

He spent six months with the Rossoblù, from January to June 2024, making 16 Serie A appearances and showcasing his quality and versatility, often operating on the left flank.

His strong performances in Italy convinced Tottenham to count on him for the 2024/25 season. He gradually established himself as an important player, enjoying a season of continued growth and even featuring in the Europa League final, which Tottenham won 1–0 against Manchester United.

That campaign also saw him make his England debut, on September 9, 2025. He subsequently played a starring role for England at the 2026 World Cup.
