Career Story
The first Armenian player in Inter’s history: Henrikh’s story begins in Yerevan on January 21, 1989. The son of Hamlet, a professional footballer who played as a striker, Henrikh was born in Armenia but grew up in France, where his father played in the second division and scored several goals.
The bond between father and son grew stronger through football, but was tragically cut short by an illness that left Henrikh without Hamlet.
At just 13 years old, Mkhitaryan travelled to Brazil, to São Paulo. He trained at the Brazilian club’s facilities and shared a room with a player older than him: Hernanes, in one of those coincidences that would later add a Nerazzurri touch to his career.
After beginning his professional career at Pyunik Yerevan, Mkhitaryan moved to Ukraine, where he fully developed as a footballer at Metalurh and, above all, at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he met Mircea Lucescu.
From there came spells at Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United, filled with success, goals and moments of individual brilliance. After two seasons at Arsenal, he moved to Italy, joining Roma. In the Giallorossi shirt, he made 117 appearances and scored 29 goals, winning the 2022 Conference League, the same year he joined Inter.
With the Nerazzurri, Mkhitaryan has brought his wealth of footballing intelligence, experience and class to the team, becoming a fundamental part of Inter’s style of play. He scored in the Champions League semi-final against Milan and went on to produce a series of outstanding performances.
In his first four years in Nerazzurro, he won two Serie A titles, two Italian Super Cups and one Coppa Italia. His goal against Parma on May 3, 2026, sparked celebrations at San Siro, as Chivu’s side were crowned Italian champions once again.
