Facts and figures on the 2-2 draw at San Siro

MILAN – It was a rollercoaster ride on matchday six at the San Siro, as Inter and Atalanta played out a thrilling 2-2 draw.  Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring before goals from Ruslan Malinovskiy and Rafael Tolói hauled the Bergamaschi ahead, only for Edin Dzeko to grab an equaliser with 20 minutes to go. There were 40 attempts on goal during the match (21 of which came from Atalanta), more than in any other Serie A match this season. The result takes the Nerazzurri to 14 points, with 20 goals scored and 7 conceded.

BARELLA ALWAYS INVOLVED Nicolò Barella has now laid on 5 assists this season. Only last season did he record a higher number of assists across an entire Serie A campaign (7). The Nerazzurri midfielder has been involved in at least one goal in each of his 6 appearances in the league (one goal, 5 assists). Of the 4 players to record at least 5 assists in the five major European leagues so far this season – Benzema, Pogba, Simon being the other three – Barella is the youngest.

INTER SCORE IN 25TH GAME ON THE BOUNCE: NEW RECORD The last time Inter failed to score in a Serie A match was in January 2021, in the 0-0 draw at Udinese. The 25-match run – 6 games this season and 19 last season – is a new club record in Serie A since it became a single league, breaking that set by Giulio Cappelli’s Nerazzurri side in the 1949/50 season.

DZEKO AND LAUTARO GOALS Before Saturday’s game, Lautaro Martinez had never scored as many as 4 goals in his first 6 league games. Of the 4 goals he has scored in the first 5 minutes of matches, 2 have come against Atalanta, the last being in January 2020.  In the 21st century, only 2 Inter players in their debut seasons have scored at least 5 goals in their first 6 league games: Diego Milito in 2009/10 and Edin Dzeko in 2021/22. The Nerazzurri striker has now scored 7 goals against Atalanta in Serie A. Against no other team has he scored more – he also has 7 against Bologna. The goal at the San Siro was his 50th home goal in Serie A, in his 100th home appearance in the Italian top-flight.
