— Nov 9th 2025Comments from the Nerazzurri captain, who opened the scoring against Lazio with a great goal
A goal to remember, a goal that takes Lautaro Martinez even higher in Inter’s storied history. His strike against Lazio was a masterpiece, a spectacular strike that allowed Chivu’s side to open the scoring early against the Biancocelesti. It was a special evening for the Nerazzurri captain, who reached 161 goals for Inter, drawing level with Sandro Mazzola in fourth place on Inter’s all-time top scorers list.
Here’s what the captain had to say in his post-match interview following Inter vs. Lazio:
“I’m happy because we won. Teams with quality up front and good possession can always cause you problems, but that goal got us up and running from the start. The group matters more than any individual player, but of course these goals are important for me, for my career, for everything I put into playing for Inter, and for all the work I do every day. When I arrived here, I never imagined it would turn out as well as this. I’m proud. I always want to play, to defend my teammates and to defend these fans we fight for. Every time I step onto the pitch, I give 100% – that’s my only secret. I wanted to shoot; it’s true that I struck it while taking a long stride, but what matters is that it went in and opened the scoring. I always thank the fans who come to the stadium and push us on – they support us in every match. I celebrate every goal in a special way because scoring is the most beautiful thing in football. Winning is what matters most, and scoring in a win is even better. When I walk off the pitch and hear all these people singing my name, I still get goosebumps – just like the first time it happened. I always take compliments to heart, especially from Bobo Vieri, who is an example to follow for everything he did in Serie A and in the Inter shirt. A smile on my face? I remain the same: serious, but when there’s a reason to smile, I do. Scoring at San Siro is the most beautiful thing in the world. The crowd is always there, always part of the match, always pushing us on – they’re like an extra player for us.”
