LOS ANGELES - While Inter waited for their debut in the FIFA Club World Cup, Saturday saw the presentation of the new Inter head coach, Cristian Chivu. Before the press conference, the President and CEO Giuseppe Marotta speak to the press.
“We're here in Los Angeles for this great contest: the story of this season shows that Inter is one of the best teams in the world, we're representing Italy in a worldwide context. Our presence here is aimed at getting important results. We know that football moves quickly, we had a coach who meant a lot to us, he gave us lots and. we returned it. After four years, the journey with Simone Inzaghi came to an end. This is football. We parted on good terms and shared some amazing moments, thanks to him. We have brought in someone worthy of the Club’s legacy. With Ausilio and Baccin, we identified Chivu as the right profile to carry forward the model of Inter. It was a shared decision with the ownership, which has always supported us. This wasn’t a fallback—despite what’s been said, there was no confusion. We made our choice quickly, within 24 hours. There were just some bureaucratic steps to complete. We thank Parma for allowing us to finalize the agreement. Cristian Chivu is no stranger to the Inter world. He was a great player, both in terms of achievements and prestige. At 22, he captained Ajax, he’s played on some huge stages. As a coach, he gained experience with Inter’s youth teams, where we saw his qualities firsthand. He won the Italian title with our U19 team. In Serie A, he immediately made an impact, guiding Parma to safety with great merit. We’re proud to have a coach who is Made in Inter, and developed in our youth ranks. His style of play has often been exciting and aligns with the club’s ambitions. Next year, we’ll again compete in all domestic and European competitions—with the same drive to win. There’s still a bitter feeling over the heartbreaking result in Munich. Reaching two Champions League finals in three years isn’t easy. That night didn’t go our way, but we’ve learned from it and are ready to bounce back. Next season, we’ll also have an Under-23 team competing in Serie C. As a club and ownership group, we embrace this new model. We’re focussed on developing our young talent—even for the first team, two young players have already joined. This World Cup squad includes other youngsters returning from loan spells. Chivu will have great responsibility. We’re confident he’ll carry it with dedication, a strong work ethic, and a deep sense of belonging. He was a protagonist of the Treble-winning team and knows what it means to win. There will be some new faces among the staff, along with others who have already worked with us: we are very satisfied.”
