The words of the Nerazzurri President and CEO after Inter vs. Fluminese

Inter's FIFA Club World Cup 2025 journey comes to an end in the Round of 16: Chivu's side were knocked out at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte in a complicated and competitive match, ending the Nerazzurri's season with 63 games played. These are Inter President and CEO Giuseppe Marotta's words after the game against Fluminense:

“It was the last game of a long and tiring season that has seen us stand out, representing Italian football in all the competitions, including this last one. It's clear that asking more of this team after 63 games played, over 20 more than some of our closest rivals, also means analysing to see its psychological and physical impact. This game, for example, represents what I am saying: if this fixture was played in March, the result would have been different. Now we need to come back together, recharge our batteries and approach the start of the season with the same determination and respect of the values that have always made this Club stand out. The history of Inter tells us that we must always raise the bar and compete as best as possible in all the competitions that we play in, and even next year we will play in them all. I want to thank the whole group of players and staff, I have already thanked Inzaghi before, and I would like to thank Chivu for the work he has done. This was an important experience that gave us a chance to test our exciting youngsters who will be part of our team next year. Now it is time to recharge for another difficult season which will culminate in the World Cup which many of our boys will be involved in. Lautaro's words? I interpret them positively, as captain he emphasised certain assumptions and truths, he referred to a concept that I often say, that when a player no longer wants to stay part of the team, it's better that they go. Until today, no-one fully showed this intention, perhaps he was referring to the situation with Calhanoglu that will be defined as soon as possible. It is part of those end-of-season scenarios that we have always resolved calmly and openly, and we will do it this way again. We will speak with Calhanoglu and we will resolve everything in the best way in the interest of the team, Inter and him. Lautaro's words are also true in society as winning spirit can take you far. Calhanoglu? We still need to thank him for what he has done, today the summer market officially opens and there must be strong intentions from players if they do want to leave, I am speaking generally. At the moment, just like everyone else, Calhanoglu has said nothing, but we are ready to listen to him and all the others. For now, no-one has said they want to leave, so the team are very tight and even in these past days they have shown their value. Unfortunately, they just ran out of battery, but this is natural. In the 63rd match they were looking for extra energy, also mentally, that they are not used to having at the end of a season.”
