The numbers and facts from the Nerazzurri's win against the Belgians

Another great European night for Inter. At the RSC Anderlecht Stadium in Brussels, Cristian Chivu’s side swept aside Union Saint-Gilloise 4–0 on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League league phase. A flawless display – powerful, composed, and mature – that takes the Nerazzurri to nine points from three games without conceding a single goal.

A HISTORIC RUN

Inter have written a new chapter in their European story: for the first time ever in the European Cup/Champions League, the Nerazzurri have won their opening three matches without conceding a goal. The 4-0 triumph in Brussels is also one for the record books: only once before had Inter won an away European fixture by four or more goals, the famous 5-1 victory over Valencia at the Mestalla on 20 October 2004. 21 years later, another unforgettable night.

LAUTARO, RECORD AFTER RECORD

Captain, leader, and unstoppable goalscorer – Lautaro Martínez continues to carve his name into Inter history. With his goal against the Belgian side, the Argentine becomes the top scorer in the Champions League in 2025, with 11 goals. Inter’s number 10 also reached a special milestone: 60 appearances in the European Cup/Champions League, drawing level with Iván Córdoba for third place on the club’s all-time list. Ahead of him stand only two fellow Argentines — Esteban Cambiasso (62) and Javier Zanetti (97).

PIO ESPOSITO, FIRST EUROPEAN GOAL

A moment to remember for Francesco Pio Esposito. At just 20 years and 115 days old, the 2005-born forward scored his first-ever Champions League goal, becoming the second-youngest Inter player to find the net in the competition, behind only Mario Balotelli (18 years and 84 days in 2008). With a goal and an assist in the same match, Esposito also joins an exclusive group: only Lamine Yamal and Geovany Quenda, both born in 2007, have managed the same feat at a younger age in this year’s tournament.

DUMFRIES, POWER AND PRESENCE

Denzel Dumfries’ drive proved decisive once again. The Dutchman opened the scoring to set Inter on their way to victory, reaching five career goals in the Champions League. Since his first strike in the competition in 2022/23, only Nuno Mendes has scored more among defenders (six), with Dumfries now level with Grimaldo and Hakimi.

ÇALHANOĞLU, FLAWLESS FROM THE SPOT

Calm composure, once again. Hakan Çalhanoğlu buried Inter’s third goal from the penalty spot, keeping his perfect Champions League record intact: seven penalties taken, seven scored — the longest 100% record in the competition’s history. Since joining Inter in 2021/22, the Turkish midfielder has netted seven Champions League goals, second only to Lautaro Martínez (18) among current Nerazzurri players.

BASTONI HITS 50

The game against Union Saint-Gilloise was a special one for Alessandro Bastoni, who made his 50th appearance in the UEFA Champions League. A milestone that reflects the steady growth and consistency of a defender who has become a cornerstone of Inter’s squad.
