Francesco Pio Esposito's debut for Inter

It was the start of the second half between Inter and Urawa Red Diamonds: Kawana-Waugh's board showed the numbers 94 and 70. Sebastiano went off, and on came Francesco Pio, but their surname is the same: Esposito. It was an unforgettable moment for the second of the two: the young 2005-born attacker made his debut with the first team, 11 years after starting his journey in the Inter youth set-up. Pio put in a top performance, massively helping out his teammates: he was always an option in the centre. Esposito fought the Italian defenders, laying the ball onto his colleagues, causing problems in attacking areas. In his 45 minutes played, Pio touched the ball 20 times, creating one chance and having four shots (one on goal, two off target, and one blocked). You could clearly see his energy and drive to help Inter complete the comeback against the Urawa Red Diamonds: in the end, he was also involved in Valentin Carboni's goal, coming just after Esposito's somewhat lucky set-up for Sucic's effort.

It was an important performance and a determined victory that the Nerazzurri worked hard for: a win that will remain in the memory of Francesco Pio Esposito.

NERAZZURRI BROTHERS

Francesco Pio's debut, replacing his brother Sebastiano, makes them the ninth set of brothers to play for Inter.

The first example of Nerazzurri brothers dates way back to the roots of Italian football: the Cevelini brothers wrote important and unforgettable stories into Inter's history, way back in the Club's first years. They were Aldo (91 appearances and 46 goals, 1889-born midfielder) Mario (39 appearances and one goal, 1891-born defender) and the legendary Luigi (the 1895-born forward is the fourth best scorer in Inter history with 158 goals in 190 appearances), Cesare (12 appearances and 3 goals, 1899-born defender) and Carlo (16 appearances and 15 goals, 1901-born forward. Quella partita terminò 1-1: naturalmente il gol dell'Inter venne segnato da Luigi Cevenini.

Negli anni '30 ci sono diversi esempi di fratelli in campo con la maglia dell'Inter: basti pensare ad Attilio e Felix Demaria, due dei primi argentini della storia nerazzurra. Esterni ai due lati del campo, Attilio era un giocatore offensivo che ha segnato 86 gol in 295 presenze con la maglia dell'allora Ambrosiana, mentre Felix aveva caratteristiche maggiormente difensive. Nel 1932/33 quest'ultimo giocò 9 partite con l'Inter, 6 delle quali insieme al fratello maggiore Attilio. Nella stessa stagione anche i fratelli uruguaiani Ricardo e Francisco Frione giocarono insieme con la maglia nerazzurra: il primo giocò solo una partita contro il Napoli segnando un gol, mentre il secondo rimase all'Inter collezionando 62 presenze e 13 gol fino al 1935, anno della sua morte improvvisa per una malattia. 8 partite insieme e uno Scudetto nella stagione 1937/38 per i fratelli Nicola e Antonio Ferrara, italo argentini: il primo era nato a Chiaromonte, in provincia di Potenza, mentre il secondo a San Fernando, in Argentina.

L'esempio successivo è datato 1967/68: Sandro Mazzola, colonna e simbolo nerazzurro, in quella stagione condivise campo e spogliatoio con il fratello Ferruccio, centrocampista che giocò due partite con l'Inter in compagnia del più celebre fratello maggiore. Altri due fratelli cresciuti nel settore giovanile nerazzurro sono Tiziano e Bortolo Mutti: il primo giocò una partita di Coppa Italia contro il Torino nel 1971/72, il secondo collezionò due presenze nella stessa competizione nel 1975/76. Periodi diversi anche per Silvano e Davide Fontolan: il primo, difensore classe 1955, giocò 18 partite tra campionato, Coppa Italia e Coppa delle Coppe nel 1978/79, mentre il secondo, centrocampista nato nel 1966, ha giocato 160 partite tra il 1991 e il 1996, segnando 16 gol.

L'ultima coppia di fratelli a condividere la maglia nerazzurra è quella dei Paganin: entrambi difensori, Antonio e Massimo hanno vinto insieme la Coppa UEFA del 1993/94. Il primo ha giocato con l'Inter tra il 1990 e il 1995, collezionando 142 presenze e un gol, mentre il secondo è rimasto in nerazzurro dal 1993 al 1997, totalizzando 151 presenze e 2 reti.
