There has been 64 years since Inter and Fluminese's only meeting. It was 14 June 1961 and the Brazilians were on their pre-season tour in Italy. They came to San Siro alongside 50,000 Nerazzurri fans wanting to see the first touches of the new signing Luis Suarez, just bought from Barcelona.
Some of the roots of the team that would then become the great Inter side under Herrera also featured in the number 10's first game with the Nerazzurri. The match finished 1-1 with the visitors breaking the deadlock through Waldo's powerful free kick. Just a few minutes later, Firmani came on, and after a perfect exchange with Suarez on the left, set up Bicicli's equaliser.
In a match full of chances, the goalkeepers stood out most of all with Da Pozzo key in protecting the Nerazzurri goal and Castilho taking centre stage with truly miraculous stops to deny Suarez and his teammates, in a match in which Luisito showed his vision of play and unique style to the Nerazzurri faithful for the first time.
