Lautaro "I'd pictured that goal"
FIFA Club World Cup
— Jun 21st 2025Post-match comments from the Nerazzurri captain, who bagged Inter's equaliser in their comeback victory over Urawa Red Diamonds with a wonderful overhead kick
A complete performance, and yet another display of pride and love for the Nerazzurri shirt. Once again, Lautaro Martínez led by example, fighting for every ball and inspiring the team to a comeback win against Urawa Red Diamonds. The Inter captain scored the equaliser in the 78th minute with a brilliant overhead kick, finally breaking through the defensive wall the Japanese side had built.
“It was the same in the first match: all our games will be like this because we’re facing teams from other continents who play good football and put everything into it. Now, we have to show pride, stay humble and be ready to dig deep when needed. We’re frustrated to have conceded again from their only real chance. There’s a lot we need to improve on, but there’s still one more game to finish the group. We need to learn from this: against teams like this, our usual quality can drop because of the way they play. We have to be willing to do the dirty work and grow in that respect. I didn’t actually see my goal go in, but I’d pictured scoring from that corner. Sometimes, when you want something badly enough, it just happens.”
