Inter vs. Urawa, post - match interviews
FIFA Club World Cup
— Jun 21st 2025SEATTLE – A crucial win for Inter on Matchday 2 in Group E of the FIFA Club World Cup, with the Nerazzurri beating Urawa Red Diamonds 2-1 to move up to four points. After the game, a few Inter players shared their thoughts:
“It’s a real weight off our shoulders: we needed a victory and we wanted to get back to winning ways. The goal we conceded came out of nowhere, but we reacted well. We were unlucky at times, but we showed character. Now, we can play with a bit more freedom and confidence. We’ve always stayed compact and focused, but we need to carry this spirit into what feels like a fresh start. It’s been a gruelling season, but we’re not here just to make up the numbers; we want to give it our all. We create so much, but somehow it's our opponents who take the lead. That’s why this win was important: we need to get used to winning again. We're not here on holiday – the minimum target is to get out of the group. We’ve been through some tough moments, and it hasn’t been easy on a personal level either. The final and the time with the national team were big blows, and it’s important to bounce back from those. We’re certainly at the coach’s disposal. There’s no time right now to work on new ideas in depth, but we’re open to what he’s putting forward. He’s a great person and came into the dressing room with real intent. He’s helping us, and we really appreciate him. I'm really happy for Carboni. He’s a fantastic talent and has shown that. He has qualities that no one else in the squad has. I’m delighted for him, and he can be a big asset to us.”
Alessandro Bastoni
“We never give up, even when we go behind and even when we create so much but sometimes struggle to score. Just like against Monterrey, we responded well. It’s the end of a long season, and we’ve played a lot and are a bit tired, but this competition means a lot. When you’re out on the pitch, you don’t feel the fatigue, and we always try to give our best. We kept the ball well and played our game, and getting the win gives us a big confidence boost. Lautaro? Our captain never gives up. He takes responsibility, inspires the team and is absolutely vital for us.”
Matteo Darmian
“We knew they would be well organised. They sat deep after their goal, but we showed the courage needed to win the game. We know we can do a lot better, but the important thing was to get the win. Knee injuries are always tough, so I’m really happy for Valentin. He’s in good shape and scored a crucial goal. He put in a lot of individual work during a challenging period, and he gave us an important win today. It’s the end of the season and we’ve played a huge number of matches, but our desire made the difference. Our next match won’t be easy.”
