Il primo pareggio dell'anno, un modo di chiudere con un pizzico di amaro una serata bollente, che sembrava destinata a tingersi di nerazzurro. Una battaglia spietata, un tifo incandescente. Scontri e duelli, gol e rammarico. 2-2 con il Napoli a San Siro, con l'Inter avanti due volte, e per due volte ripresa dalle zampate di McTominay. Lo scozzese si carica sulle spalle la squadra ospite e ribatte colpo su colpo all'Inter, andata in vantaggio al 9' con Dimarco e di nuovo, nella ripresa al 73' con Calhanoglu dal dischetto. Al minuto 26, alla prima azione offensiva del Napoli. Combinazione sulla sinistra tra Spinazzola ed Elmas, palla al centro per l'inserimento perfetto di McTominay. Il gol spegne un po' l'ardore nerazzurro, ma l'Inter è ancora la squadra che comanda la partita e che può far male. Conclusioni sfortunate, fino al colpo di testa di Thuram alzato in corner da Milinkovic-Savic. La ripresa si apre in maniera complicata per l'Inter, che soffre le sfuriate di Hojlund, vicinissimo al gol al minuto 3. Un segnale chiaro: il Napoli si alza e la pressione dell'Inter è meno efficace. Nei primi quindici minuti del secondo tempo gli ospiti vanno dritti, la difesa nerazzurra deve faticare. Con l'ingresso di Mkhitaryan l'Inter trova nuove energie e proprio l'armeno si procura un rigore, in un'azione che era terminata con un gran sinistro fuori di poco di Bastoni. Revisione del VAR per un fallo di Rrahmani su Mkhitaryan. Dal dischetto, al 73', Calhanoglu: un bacio al palo per il 2-1, dentro a un San Siro indiavolato, con un clima molto teso dopo le proteste della panchina ospite e l'espulsione dell'allenatore del Napoli per proteste. Purtroppo il vantaggio dura pochi minuti: all'81' altra zampata in area di McTominay, dopo un pallone di Politano lanciato in area, con la sponda precisa di Lang.
